DIY Kimono

by - June 21, 2017

Alright guys it’s that time! Get your sewing machines ready! – Don’t get too scared – this is a beginning level sewing project so give it a try! I absolutely love these Kimonos and they are about the only thing I am comfortable sewing!

Things you'll need:
  1. 1-2 yards of fabric (depending on how long you would like your kimono to be)
  2. Sewing machine
  3. Pins
  4. Scissors
Start by laying your fabric flat. Make sure the fold of your fabric is at the top (this is where your head will go) Also make sure your fabric is inside out. In this image it is a little hard to tell, but the part that I want showing when I wear the kimono is on the inside of the fold.

Next, pin the sides of your kimono together. Make sure you leave room for your arms just near the top. I like leaving about 12-14 inches so the fabric flows more and looks a bit looser on your arms. Once you have your pins in place begin sewing your sides together.
Once your sides are complete you can flip your fabric so the seams are on the inside. From there cut through the center of your fabric to make a slit (as pictured below).

Pin the slit and sew the seams to make the finished product look nice and clean!

Repeat this step on the sleeves of your kimono…

Once this step is complete you are done and ready to wear your masterpiece! These adorable kimonos can be made in just about any fabric, and make adorable bathing suit cover ups!
