Living in Michigan the weather can be incredibly unpredictable!
I try to cope with the snow by crafting! Surprised? Probably not! These DIY abstract nails are the perfect way to start preparing for the summer (which is unfortunately approaching incredibly slow this year)! It is also the perfect nail tutorial for people like me who are far from professional nail artists, and can’t afford to go get their nails done every week. This tutorial is budget friendly and one of a kind!
All the supplies for this DIY you probably already have laying around!
- A base color for your nails (I picked white)
- A second nail polish color
- Clear top coat for your nails – Optional
- A plastic bag, or saran wrap
First, start by painting your nails your base color. I like using white because I think it makes your top color pop! I also chose to do two coats, as your base coat will show through so it is important to make sure your nails are completely covered! Let your nails dry completely before proceeding to the next step!
Next, pour a bit of your second (brighter or darker) color onto a piece of saran wrap (or your plastic bag). You only need a little bit, as this next step does not require much polish!
Take another small piece of saran wrap and crumble it in your hand like the image below:
After you have done this gently dip your crumpled piece of saran wrap into your pile of nail polish. Be careful, you do not need a lot of nail polish for this step! A little bit goes a long way. Also, make sure to work quickly! Sometimes the nail polish dries fast.
Next unfold your crumpled saran wrap. You should see different patterns in the wrap and there should not be too much polish in one area.
Once you have unfolded it completely place the saran wrap onto your nails, and lift it up to reveal a pattern! This part gets a little messy, but you can always go back in and clean up your fingers with nail polish remover, or soap.
Continue with this step on each finger. You can always take another piece of saran wrap and dip it back in the polish if you run out of polish on your crumpled piece! Also, you can place multiple ‘patterns’ onto the same finger until you have a desired look! This step may take a little bit of trial and error, but once you catch on it becomes extremely simple!
Once you have completed this step you are finished! – Of course you can always add a top coat for extra protection. –
I absolutely love this look, because you are guaranteed to get a different design every time you try it! It is the perfect way to spice up your style on a budget! The smokey/abstract look is so unique and I even find myself getting lost in the patterns!
