How to Style Colored Hair
Dying my hair blue is something I have always dreamed about. As I got older I found myself getting more & more scared about the possible outcomes. I had people telling me it would be harder to find jobs, it might turn green, people would think you're on drugs... the list goes on.
I finally worked up the courage to take the jump and make a change before I graduate and end up in the 'real world' where it might be even less accepted. I am SO HAPPY I took the risk! I am so in love with how it turned out I might never go back!
One thing I have loved about my hair now is how much it compliments my everyday style! It looks as though I've put more effort into my day, when in reality it's the same routine I've always had.
Through messing with different outfits/styles/makeup... I wanted to share some of my most successful looks perfect for those of you that have, or are planning to have newly colored hair!
Braids
Braids, no matter how simple, look 10x cooler when your hair is colored! I highly suggest giving it a try.
Beanies
Ahh the beanie... one of my 'go to' items! The blue hair really helps to make my messy hair/beanie days look more intentional - and I am all for anything that makes it look like I tried! Considering most of my beanies are blue this is definitely the perfect option for me when I don't want to have to deal with my hair!
I love the way the different shades of blue play off of each other!
Curled
Curls are always a bit more work than the everyday hair style, however, it is totally worth it when your hair is colored! I love the way the curls accent the color and seem to make it pop!
This is my favorite style if you're going for a professional/dressy look! Right after this picture was taken I threw on my blazer and went to a business meeting.
Accents/Jewelry
Since coloring my hair I have had a lot of fun with accent and jewelry pieces. Blue is clearly my favorite color, so I have a lot of blue jewelry! Pairing it with my blue hair has made the pieces and my hair pop and look great together.
Below are some of my favorite examples:

These blue earrings match my hair perfectly! Matching your hair color to your jewelry is a compliment waiting to happen! |
Another 'accent' piece I have been LOVING is playing with my colored (blue) pants and leggings. They are pretty bold, and I do not normally wear them, but going to the gym I have never felt more fashionable!
My 'new' hair has made my style much more fun and bright, as I am usually a black & grey kinda girl!
Makeup/Lipstick
Something about colored hair really makes your makeup stand out! With my blue hair I have found the most success with the two extremes when it comes to lipstick: either light/nude lips for everyday wear or bright red to really make your look stand out.
As far as eye makeup goes I have gone with more neutral, brown tones, as my hair already adds plenty of color and I do not want to take the focus away from it. Some days I apply mascara only, and that seems to be a match made in heaven!
I have found doing makeup so much more fun now that I have new colors to play off of!
If you're going to add color to your hair you mind as well break out the red lips too! |
Be Fun!
Your hair is already bold so why can't you be too?! I'm already "the girl with blue hair" so why not take the opportunity to be a little edgy, try out a style I normally wouldn't, and play with color?!
